GOMBE, NIGERIA – Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has sent a clear message to political appointees across Gombe State: No one is above the law. On Thursday, the Governor announced the immediate dismissal of four Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) following their involvement in the alleged assault of a serving local government representative.
The Incident: Justice for Shamaki Ward
The victim, Abdulrahman Abubakar Sheriff, the councillor representing Shamaki Ward in Gombe LGA, was reportedly attacked by the group in an incident that sparked widespread outrage. Rather than ignore the reports, Governor Yahaya established a special investigative committee to probe the allegations.
The committee’s findings, bolstered by intelligence reports from security agencies, confirmed the aides’ involvement, leading to their swift removal.
The Dismissed Officials
The four aides, all holding the rank of Senior Special Assistant II, were ordered to hand over all government property immediately:
- Adamu Abdullahi Danko (Domestic)
- Garba Mohammed Mai Rago (Political)
- Rabiu Sulaiman Abubakar (Social Media)
- Ali Ibrahim Baban Kaya (Community Relations)
Zero Tolerance for Violence
Through a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the administration reaffirmed that public office is a call to service, not a license for intimidation.
“The Governor reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for violence, misconduct, and abuse of office, warning that any form of indiscipline will be met with strict sanctions,” the statement read.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, has been directed to ensure the termination takes immediate effect. By taking this action, Governor Yahaya aims to restore discipline within the political ranks and reassure the public that the “Renewed Hope” for Gombe includes safety and respect for all citizens and officials alike.
