Nigerian Army Stops Bandit Raid in Plateau

WASE, Plateau State — The Nigerian Army has started the new year with a decisive victory against criminal elements, successfully thwarting a planned bandit attack on communities in Plateau State. In the early hours of January 1, 2026, troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace engaged and neutralized five suspected bandits along the Dutsen Zaki–Odare forest axis in Wase Local Government Area.

Intelligence-Led Ambush Foils Attack

Acting on credible intelligence reports that armed bandits were massing in the forest to launch coordinated attacks on nearby villages, the courageous troops swiftly mobilized. An ambush was strategically set along the suspected infiltration route.

When the criminal group approached, the Nigerian Army troops initiated contact, leading to a fierce gun battle. The superior firepower and tactical prowess of the soldiers resulted in the immediate elimination of five of the attackers, while others were forced to flee into the dense forest under the cover of darkness.

Weapons Recovered, Manhunt Underway

Following the successful operation, the troops recovered vital items from the scene, including:

  • Two AK-47 magazines loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.
  • Two dangerous machetes and a knife.

A rigorous search and cordon operation remains ongoing in the area to track down and apprehend the fleeing criminals, ensuring they pose no further threat to peace-loving communities.

Army Reassures Public: “Share Timely Information”

The army leadership has reassured the residents of Plateau State of its unwavering commitment to their safety and protection. They urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital in the fight against criminality.

A strong warning was also issued to all criminal groups, urging them to abandon their illegal activities or face the full and uncompromising force of the Nigerian military.
