REINFORCING THE DEFENCE: Enyimba Secures Peter Emeka on Loan from Ekiti United

Nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba FC, have successfully bolstered their backline with the signing of defender Peter Emeka from Nigeria National League (NNL) side Ekiti United.

The deal, confirmed on Monday, January 19, 2026, sees the highly-rated center-back join the “People’s Elephant” on a short-term loan for the remainder of the 2025/2026 season.

The U-Turn in Negotiations

The transfer marks a significant turnaround in negotiations. Just days ago, Enyimba had reportedly pulled out of the deal on January 15 after failing to reach an agreement with Ekiti United over the player’s valuation.

However, following a fresh round of talks and Enyimba’s urgent need for defensive stability, both clubs reached a compromise to allow the defender to make the step up to the top flight.

A New Era Under Coach Deji Ayeni

The arrival of Peter Emeka coincides with a major leadership change at the club. Enyimba recently appointed Ayodeji Ayeni as their new Technical Adviser to replace Stanley Eguma.

  • The Challenge: Ayeni’s side has struggled in the opening stages of the second stanza, including a disappointing 0–0 draw at home against Barau FC on Sunday.
  • The Strategy: Emeka is part of a wave of mid-season recruits—including the Crown FC duo of Adekunle Mojeed and Adegbite Seye—aimed at reviving Enyimba’s title ambitions.

Why Peter Emeka?

Peter Emeka has been one of the standout performers in the NNL this season. Standing out for his physical presence and tactical awareness, he is expected to provide much-needed competition in a defense that has looked shaky during the first half of the campaign.
