Super Eagles Star Daniel Daga Charged with Sexual Assault in Norway.

The promising career of former Flying Eagles standout Daniel Daga has hit a major roadblock as his Norwegian club, Molde FK, announced his indefinite suspension on Friday. The decision comes in the wake of a formal police indictment involving an alleged sexual assault, a development that has sent shockwaves through both the Norwegian Eliteserien and the Nigerian football community.

The Legal Allegations and Court Timeline

According to an official statement released by the club, the incident in question was first reported to Norwegian authorities in late April 2025. Following a months-long investigation, the 18-year-old midfielder has been formally charged under Section 297 of the Norwegian Penal Code, which pertains to committing a sexual act without consent.

While the player has maintained his cooperation with the authorities, the legal process is set to be a lengthy one. The Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court has officially scheduled legal proceedings to begin in March 2026.

Club Action and Indefinite Bar

Molde FK has taken a firm stance following the indictment. The club confirmed that Daga has been barred from all first-team activities, including training sessions and match-day squads, effective immediately.

“The club and the player have cooperated fully with the police throughout the investigation phase,” the statement read. “However, given the gravity of the charges, the player will remain suspended from all club duties until further notice.”

A Halt to a Rising Career

The suspension brings an abrupt end to what had been a productive debut season for the youngster in Europe. Since joining Molde from FC ONE Rocket in January on a three-year deal, Daga had become a regular fixture in the side.

  • Season Stats: He featured in 15 matches across all competitions this year.
  • Goal Contribution: He found the net twice in league play.
  • Final Appearance: His last competitive outing was on November 24, where he helped Molde secure a 2-1 victory over Strømsgodset.

Impact on the National Team

Daga is widely considered one of Nigeria’s most talented young defensive midfielders. He recently returned from representing Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, his second appearance at that level. This legal development likely rules him out of contention for the senior national team’s upcoming engagements, including the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco, as he prepares for his defense in the Norwegian courts.
