Activity at the Lagos pilotage district has hit a high note this weekend. The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) confirmed on Saturday, January 17, 2026, that 20 vessels are currently discharging a diverse range of petroleum products and essential commodities across the Apapa, Tin-Can Island, and Lekki Deep Sea Ports.
This surge in maritime activity ensures a steady supply of energy and food items for the Nigerian market as the new year gains momentum.
What’s Being Discharged Now?
The 20 ships currently at berth are offloading a variety of high-demand goods, including:
- Energy & Fuel: Petrol (PMS), Diesel (AGO), Aviation Fuel (Jet A1), Crude Oil, and Bulk Gas.
- Food & Agriculture: Buckwheat, Fresh Fish, Bulk Urea (fertilizer), and Salt.
- Industrial & General Cargo: Bulk Pallets, Containers, and General Merchandise.
Coming Soon: 35 Ships on the Horizon
The NPA’s “Daily Shipping Position” report indicates that the influx is far from over. Between today and January 25, 2026, an additional 35 ships are expected to arrive at the Lagos ports. These incoming vessels are laden with:
- Gasoline and Condensate
- Gypsum and Bulk Salt
- Containers of various retail goods
- Bulk Oil and Urea
The “Waiting List”
Beyond those currently discharging, 9 additional ships have already arrived in Lagos waters and are “waiting to berth.” These vessels are carrying critical supplies like crude oil, diesel, and aviation fuel, as well as containers and general cargo, highlighting the high utilization rate of Nigeria’s primary maritime gateways.
