The AH-1Z Viper: A “Lethal Precision” Upgrade
The AH-1Z Viper is considered one of the most advanced attack helicopters in the world. Its arrival will give the NAF a decisive edge in tracking and neutralizing insurgent groups like Lakurawa, Boko Haram, and ISWAP.
Key Capabilities of the “Viper”:
- Precision Strike: Equipped with a 20mm rotary cannon and the ability to carry 16 Hellfire missiles or 76 Hydra 70 rockets.
- Targeting Excellence: Features the 3rd-generation Target Sight System (TSS), allowing pilots to identify and assign targets in total darkness or adverse weather.
- Speed & Agility: Reaches cruise speeds of 160 knots (300 km/h) with a combat radius designed for sustained engagement in difficult terrain like the Sambisa Forest or the Northwest corridor.
The “Intel-Only” Strategy
The fast-tracking of these assets is part of a new “Intel-Only” framework established following the U.S. Christmas Day 2025 airstrikes in Sokoto.
